Efficiency Finance: A new perspective
In our (Cleantech Group) 2011 fourth quarter Investment Monitor, I asserted that 2012 would be “a proving period when bets are placed, and programs and companies either mature or wilt” for efficiency finance players.
Site Visit: MUSE School (CA)
Last month I had the opportunity to visit the MUSE School in Southern California. Located in a canyon between Calabasas and Malibu, the setting for the school is idyllic. Founded in 2006 by Suzy Amis Cameron and her sister Rebecca Amis, this marks the first year on the current campus, a 22 acre spread that formerly housed Cottontail Ranch.

Axion: Turning Bottles into Bridges

Using a technique developed at Rutgers Universtity, Axion International from New Providence, N.J. is building small bridges from recycled plastic bottles. Aside from reusing the bottles, the company says the I-beams, rail ties, and other structural building products it makes are rust and corrosion proof, cost competitive, and won’t become food for termites.

2012 HGTV Green Home Unveiled

This year’s 2012 HGTV Green Home, a sweepstakes give away, is located just south of Atlanta, Georgia. Individuals may enter twice a day at either HGTV.com/greenhome or HGTVremodels.com. June 1st at 5pm ET is the deadline for entering the sweepstakes, valued at roughly $800,000. A car (from sponsor GM), the house, and $100,000 comprise the grand prize.

75 Percent Recycling Rate at 2012 Consumer Electronics Show
At the beginning of the year, I talked about some of the eco-friendly products that were featured at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). However, I didn’t go into great detail as to how sustainability was carried out as a major theme of the venue itself. Now that several months have passed since the event, CES has crunched the numbers and issued a press release and YouTube video outlining what was accomplished.

GE, Alcoa, Johnson Controls, Ford, Intel and Hess are leaders in the innovation of clean-tech solutions and products, mitigation of climate change-related risks and management of carbon emissions, according to a rating by risk analysis company Maplecroft.
