Calendar of Environmental Events

Here are more than 50 environmental events that take place throughout the course of the year. Many of these events are meant to raise awareness while others encourage tangible actions in support of the environment. These events run the gamut from the World Kitchen Garden Day (August 26th) to the crucially important U.N. sponsored COP process (end of November and the beginning of December) meant to forge an internationally binding treaty that is necessary to save our planet from runaway climate change.

• April 29           :      Arbor Day ( Different nations have different tree planting days)

MAY

• May 12            :     World Fair Trade Day (2^nd Saturday of May)
• May 14-15     :       International Migratory Bird Day  (Second Weekend each May)
• May 22           :       International Day for Biological Diversity (Theme for 2012: Marine  Biodiversity)

• June 5            :       World Environment Day  (Theme for 2012: Green Economy)
• June 8            :       World Oceans Day
• June 15          :       Global Wind Day
• June 17         :        World Day to Combat Desertification
• June 20         :        World Refugee Day
• June 15-18   :         Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum
