Ford will cut its energy use by 25 percent over the next five years, according to the automaker’s 13th annual sustainability report. The reduction will be achieved by expanding water recycling, shipping less waste to landfills, and reducing emissions of carbon dioxide. Ford also reported that it has reduced the amount of energy used to produce vehicles by 22 percent in the last six years.
A new sustainability guide, the Inclusive Wealth Index, is part of the Inclusive Wealth Report 2012, an initiative launched for Rio+20. The I.W.I. looks beyond the traditional yardstick of G.D.P. and the Human Development Index to include a full range of assets such as manufactured, human, and natural capital, showing the true state of a nations’ wealth and the sustainability of its growth.
