BLOG / NEWSLETTER:
“CSC is a company of approximately 97,000 IT professionals around the globe, and I would hazard a guess that about ¾ of us are STEM professionals; meaning we are computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, astrophysicists and astronomers, with some biologists and chemists thrown in the mix somewhere too. We were founded as Computer Sciences Corporation more than 50 years ago, and we were the first IT company to be listed on the NYSE. According to legend, CSC actually coined the phrase “computer science” in the early days of the company around 1959. In those days there was no computer science, it was just called advanced mathematics.
STEMconnector™ is a much needed tool for the STEM communities and is a huge step in the right direction. What we need now is to continue the dialogue on these challenege with enthusiasm, bring the decision makers together and get everyone involved to help us continue the journey toward filling 3 million open STEM jobs that are forecasted to be available 3 years from now. As much as we can, we must reach out to our schools and involve them in our business in order to light the spark of passion for IT and innovation and most of all to make our investments in supporting STEM initiatives, research and education. John P. Holden, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology said it well, “High quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education is critical for the prosperity and security of our Nation.” -Susan Pullin, Vice President Corporate Responsibility at CSC.
